A FOND FAREWELL TO EBAY

This is my last listing on ebay to try getting a response from their tech department.

Avalonvh46 was a username chosen by my mother.  She met my father while teaching roller skating at the Avalon skate center in Montana.  Dad was just home from serving in Patton's Third Army at the Battle  of the Bulge.  And beyond.  Things were happening for more decades of good living by worthy people.  A couple years before Dad died my Mom had a stroke and needed full nursing care.  She worked hard in physical therapy and gained partial use of her paralyzed left side.  She would need 24/7.  Dad also had health problems with cancer and congestive heart failure.

So for them to remain at home I had to quit employment and stay in their home for daily care.  I used a hoya lift and medical hospital beds to care for them.  When Dad died Mom was nostalgic for when they built their antique and collectible business when they were still young and vital.  So I tried opening an ebay account to keep her interested in life while confined to a chair and hospital bed.  We thought of using the name Avalon but refinements were necessary because the name was already taken.  So the number 46 was added in memory of the year my parents met at the Avalon skating rink.

It was an interesting few years for Mom with sales all over the world with good people who would mail post cards later to share their worlds and their common interest in antiques and collectibles.  Ebay was a good business for the small dealer confined to home.  I was prompt and responsible about mailing items so we garnered a 100% and 5 star rating.  I continued the store after Mom died and built 580 sales back when the small account mattered to ebay.

That's why its so hard to close the store now that ebay is unresponsive to a problem with their tech department.  The early days of lockdown and shipping difficulties made me put the store on vacation and eventually close it.  I maintained membership as an independent lister.  But when I tried to sell again customers could not buy because the vacation listing was still on.  I turned off the 'time away' setting but I kept getting messages from customers who wanted to by that they could not.

The staff at the ebay service department were very polite and helpful the four times I called to correct the problem.  They could not fix it on my end or on their end so they always sent a report to the ebay tech department.  The problem is still there after months of attempts to correct.  It is difficult for me to close the AvalonVH46 account for nostalgic reasons.  Yet that is the point I've reached.

If you are able to read this description of the essay letter I offer for sale at $3.00 to handle shipping and handling costs you will notice when you click 'buy now' that you will get a notice that the store is on vacation and you can't purchase until seller returns.  This listing is a fond farewell to what ebay meant to us in the past.

A fond farewell to the ebay memory.
