COSMIC SPIRIT WITH HAMMOND JOURNEY (Part Two)

I wouldn't declare I will NEVER have another Hammond B-3 with full red walnut cabinet and two Leslies for arena sound.

                                      Hammond XK-1C

I'm just wondering if it might be a benefit to get one of the new Hammonds for recording purposes, since I'm not aiming for stadiums anyway?  My girlfriend would never find room in our house for the big equipment.  I have a section of posts that feature the new Hammonds that synthesize the old tonewheels.

But this blog post is about the recording potential of a world I know nothing about.   Remember that the early time of impassioned learning can be fun in itself.  We listened to Cream, Iron Butterfly, and Traffic with a sense of awe about how such sound was created.  Then we asked musicians how they did it.  Got magazines, Rolling Stone, and liner notes to spy on how it is done.  Conceptual expertise followed but the big step was actually getting some equipment.

That's where I'm at with looking at this whole new world of creating and sharing music through technology.  Thanks to help from a recording friend, my intro study has bookmarks to Logic Pro X and since many of us don't have Mac there is Garage Band for PC bookmark.  The information I start with is cursory with links.  My real interest is the Hammond potential for quality classic sound that does not upset my family lifestyle or abuse musician/roadies with dreams of stadiums.  Good quality soundtracks would be a worthwhile quest in itself.  Absorption in study is how it starts, if I remember correctly, and the next step to ownership is a big one.

Here is a good demo : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=exgekMsvl3o

Not sure if it is available yet but here is a link to a promising recording system from the actual Hammond company.

That's all beyond my experience but it looks promising.

I will start small while keeping in mind "The Magic of Thinking Big" by David Schwartz

Research on the portable Hammonds indicates that my best choice would be the Hammond XK-1C which has a full range of organ qualities only without the piano or clavichord etc.  I appreciate jazz but it is not my forte so a full range of rock heavy with variation toward mood aesthetics is important to me.  The XK-1C meets all those parameters and then some.  Price and portability is a prime consideration so that is the vision I'm holding. Cost with an amp would be less than $2,000 rather than the $30,000 it would take to rebuild my former glory.
