YULETIDE
THOUGHTS AT YULETIDE.
Ancient ways are not so different from what we've formed in Wyrd by our observations in the 20th and 21st Centuries. We have a resonance with the appearance of greenery, lights, circular wreaths, family feasts, and oaths for what we intend to accomplish. Whether we remember this from last year, 20 years ago or in the distant past centuries, we know Yuletide is significant. Nostalgia is not a pathology. From the well of remembrance we connect with what makes us who we are. Yule is a time when we recall what has become with the Norn Urdhr. We gather and time stands still as we live in the present moment with the Norn Verdhandi. We also project what we Will and seek insight for what should become with the Norn Skuld.
That has always been true even when we forgot the exact rituals of ages gone by. We kept the essence. Is is debatable if any tribes or families kept the same rituals as other tribes and families anyway. I for one appreciate the efforts to revive the exact forms of rituals and wordings that I've used for over 30 years. Some I hold memorized in my being where they should be. My Kindred and associates have our own remembrance of rites, words, tools, and sense of purpose. It has always been thus.
I do not negate kin and friends who never joined the formalities of organized Asatru. They lived lives of value. I use the past tense because most of my people are now passed on. The subject of what they have passed on to is another matter that I will link in the future with an essay by a man smarter than me.
This is a season of renewal. So I'm thankful that I have kin who have brought new life into the world. The happy shining eyes of the very young as they experience the sights, sounds, and feelings of Yuletide are what its all about. They will do well. Jolnir is the name of the All Father during this season. He is the giver of gifts. The profound gifts symbolized by bright presents is what I wish for my people. Bless all of you.
