 I first met Otis Burlingame under annoying circumstances. Fragments of glass bounced off his head, ruining my drink, and making the bar unfit for human occupancy.  A large man had removed the glass framed business license from the wall and busted it over Burlingame's head.  The historical business license had been traditional reading material in my solitary drinking.  Concern was shown in conversation by other customers at the bar.
